Businesses damaged in suspicious Kentwood fire

Posted

KENTWOOD, Mch. -- An overnight fire did some damage to a handful of businesses in Kentwood. Investigators say the fire is being treated as suspicious because it appears that someone broke in prior to the fire.

The fire broke out at a Kentwood business complex shortly before 2:00 a.m. Thursday, and investigators were still on the scene when the sun came up.

A bystander called to report showing smoke, and when crews arrived, there was indeed a fire.

FOX 17 was told at least one of the businesses was pretty much gutted by the fire, and others suffered smoke and water damage.

"The door wasn't broken at 10:30 last night, but it was broken this morning with the building on fire, so it doesn't exactly add up," said Kentwood Fire Chief, Brent Looman. "We've got Kentwood Police here with us doing the investigation."

There are no suspects in custody at this time.
