UTICA, New York — Utica scored twice in the games first 12 minutes on Sunday night and Grand Rapids could not recover, falling 2-1 in game one of the Western Conference Finals.
Mark Zengerle got the Griffins on the board with just under four minutes to play in the opening period.
The Comets lead the series, 1-0. Game 2 is Monday night in Utica. Games 3 and 4 will be in Grand Rapids on Thursday and Friday.
