Detroit teacher donates kidney to student

Posted

DETROIT — A’ja Booth’s return to school after a kidney transplant was special not only for her but for her teacher, Nadira Muhammad. Muhammad donated the kidney.

“I just saw a human in need and I helped her,” said Muhammad to WDIV. “I would like someone to do the same for my child. And I’m a mother, so I felt if I can help I’m going to help — and I did.”

“Coming back is a blessing and wonderful to know that I’m doing good,” said A’ja. The student is doing well after enduring three weeks of dialysis before the transplant. Now, she just wants to “explore. Go out and do things I never could before.”

And graduate. She does that next month.
