CROCKERY TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 38-year-old firefighter remains hospitalized Tuesday after responding to a fatal electrocution incident in Ottawa County, according to Crockery Township Fire Chief Gary Dreyer.

Emergency responders were called to the 11000 block of Apple Drive just before 6 p.m. Monday after a woman came home from work and found her husband unresponsive outside their home.

Jason Bearut, 43, of Nunica died in the incident and two firefighters were injured while trying to rescue him.

One firefighter went into cardiac arrest after being electrocuted and fell onto the other.  The second firefighter who was shocked continued rescue efforts despite injuries.

Both were hospitalized, but the second firefighter who was electrocuted has been released.   The two suffered minor burns, Dreyer said.

Investigators are still working to determine what led up to the electrocution incident.   The victim’s name has not been released.
