PUERTO MONTT, Chile — A tourist taking video in the Llanquihe National Reserve captured the first moments when the Calbuco volcano exploded this week. The scene is at first pastoral, with waterfalls and forest in the foreground and the peak of the mountain in the background. Suddenly, a cloud of dust and gas rises from the peak, though no sound is heard except an exclamation in Spanish from the tourist.
The video was posted Friday on Reddit.
