GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Charges of murder and other felonies have been authorized against Clifton Witherspoon in the 2013 shooting death of Rick Hammad of Kentwood. Witherspoon is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon.

Witherspoon, 38, is already incarcerated with the Michigan Department of Corrections on unrelated charges, said a release from the Grand Rapids Police Department. The new charges have been authorized by the Kent County Prosecutors Office.

Hammad, who was 42 when he died, was found lying shot outside his vehicle on September 21, 2013, at the corner of Dickinson Street and Linden Avenue SE in Grand Rapids.

The charges against Witherspoon include felony murder, felony firearm, and a fourth offense of being a habitual offender.

The investigation continues.
