Construction on new roundabout begins quietly at M-11 and Remembrance Road

Posted

WALKER, Mich. — Traffic disruptions can be expected during the construction of the roundabout at M-11/Wilson Avenue and Remembrance Road, but not right away. While the project’s official start date is Monday, April 13, the real heavy lifting and closures begin on Monday, April 20, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

During the first week, expect only a lane closure on northbound Wilson Avenue at Remembrance Road for water main work.

Beginning Monday, April 20, portions of the intersection will be closed: Remembrance Road will be closed south of the intersection; Wilson Avenue will be closed north of the intersection. Meanwhile, M-11/Wilson Avenue will be open south of the intersection, and M-11/Remembrance Road will be open northwest of the intersection.

Another intersection will be affected by the construction. A temporary traffic signal will control traffic where 3 Mile and Johnson Street intersect with Remembrance Road/Ironwood Road. There will be turn restrictions at that intersection during the roundabout construction.

The finished roundabout will be the first in West Michigan with two lanes in the roundabout.

The whole project is scheduled to be finished by August 8.
