GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Graphic cell phone videos surfaced from a fight on Grand Rapids’ southeast side Monday. It showed people crowding around a fight between two women, who officers said are former friends. Then a driver runs one woman over with a car.
The fight happened near Prospect Avenue SE and Garden Street. In one word, Grand Rapids Police Sgt. Terry Dixon called it, “disturbing.” The GRPD is investigating the assault, and officers have identified, and continue to interview, the people involved.
As of Wednesday, Dixon said charges are likely coming soon, possibly including felony vehicular assault.
“It is very disturbing based on this video that you see, this is not something that you’d want to see every day happen to anyone,” said Dixon. “It is very disturbing.”
Although Dixon said he “cannot say he has never seen this before,” he did tell FOX 17 that “this is not common.”
Dixon said the video will play a significant role in their investigation. However, they question why anyone filming something like this would not stop and try to break up the fight.
