NILES – Detectives with the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department in conjunction with Crime Stoppers says there’s the possibility of up to a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of a shooting suspect that left a 24-year-old woman in critical condition.

On Sunday, March 22 just before 3:00 p.m., deputies were dispatched to Aarons Mini-Storage at 2601 North 5th Street in Niles Township on reports of a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.

The 24-year-old from the Niles area was rushed to the hospital in nearby South Bend, Indiana where she underwent surgery for a gunshot wound, last said to be in critical condition.

Detectives were able to determine an alleged domestic dispute between the victim and her boyfriend, 28-year-old Michael Jerome Exom III, had led up to the shooting.  Deputies say Exom III produced a handgun and shot the victim before fleeing from the scene.

Exom III, considered armed and dangerous, was last seen leaving the area in a 2004 Buick Park Avenue, light blue in color with a possible Michigan plate of DCP 0878.

Exom III is now wanted on charges of Assault with the Intent to Murder and Felony Firearms.
