HOLLAND, Mich. -- A young girl in Allegan County is hoping to raise enough money to take a trip to Mexico to spread her father's ashes. Nine-year-old Taylor Huitt never met her father, who died while her mom was still pregnant.

With the help of her older sister, Lindsey Nielsen, Taylor is seeking to raise enough money to travel to Cozumel, which was her father's favorite place to visit.

For Taylor, photos and stories that she hears from her family are all that she knows of her father, Thomas, who took his own life back in 2005 when Taylor's mother was pregnant with her.

"She doesn't know what a dad is, and that's the other main reason why I want her to go, is because it's something he loved," said Nielsen.

Before Taylor was born, the family would vacation in Cozumel, and Taylor wants to make the city that her father loved the final resting spot for his ashes.

"I mainly want her to be able to go so she can get closure, spread his ashes and then at least kind of get a feel for what it was like for him," said Nielsen.

It's is something her mother, Charlotte, said would provide closure for them both.

If you'd like to help, you can contribute to the family's GoFundMe page.
