GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Three people are in custody after allegedly attempting to flee a deputy in their car and eventually on foot.

A deputy from the Kent County Sheriff’s Department was checking out a suspicious vehicle that was parked in the lot of a closed business near 28th Street and Charlevoix Drive just after 4:20 Sunday morning.

As the deputy approached the vehicle on foot, the car drove off.

The suspect vehicle soon crashed on a road shoulder near 28th Street and Patterson Avenue.  The driver and front passenger got out of the car and continued to flee on foot.

With assistance from Kentwood Police and a Holland Department of Public Safety K9 Unit, the suspects were taken into police custody.

The driver was arrested for fleeing/eluding police and some outstanding warrants.  Two passengers in the vehicle were also arrested on outstanding warrants.
