GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A 7-year-old student at NorthPointe Christian Elementary School walked away from school grounds Tuesday and was missing for more than an hour.

According to NorthPointe Superintendent Joel Westa, the boy wandered off the playground during recess at about 10:30 a.m. without any school employees noticing.

Grand Rapids Police used dogs to help track the boy, Westa said.  He was discovered unharmed at a home more than a mile away at about 11:40 a.m.

According to MLive, the boy stopped at a home on Coit Avenue near 4 Mile Road and asked for directions.  The homeowner brought him inside and called police.

Westa says school officials plan on reviewing recess procedures to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
