ST. JOSEPH, Mich. — A 10-year-old boy is still alive thanks to the quick actions of a Battle Creek man at a hotel in St. Joseph.

According to a release from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, 29-year-old Tim Rose saved the boy from drowning at the pool Saturday at Silver Beach Hotel, 100 Main Street.

Officials say the boy was visiting the hotel to celebrate a cousin’s birthday party.

Rose saw him at the bottom of pool, which is about eight feet deep.   At first, officials said he thought the 10-year-old was trying to see how long he could hold his breath, but it soon became apparent that the boy was unresponsive.

Rose dove in the pool, and others helped him get the boy out of the water, officials said in a release.  He then performed CPR on the boy, and after about two minutes, the boy started breathing on his own again.

The boy was transported to the hospital and has since been released.
