BATTLE CREEK, Mich -- The Battle Creek Crime Prevention Unit has started a series of town hall meetings to help make the community safer.

The first one was Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Department of Public Works building.

Residents learned how to keep their homes safe. They received tips from Officer Chris Rabbitt about improving home security. Some of those tips included where to place lights outside, what doors work best, and even the type of glass for windows.

The meeting was the first in a series of meetings. Office Rabbitt says the next meeting is in February, and the topic will be identity theft.
