KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — A stretch of I-94 was shut down early Saturday because of an accident involving a semi truck and a compact car. The vehicles were traveling east on the highway, just west of Helmer Rd. Bridge when the collision occurred. I-94 was shut down at exit 95 (Helmer Rd.) following the crash.
The driver of the car sustained injuries, prompting Police and Fire to call in Aircare- the helicopter landing directly on the stretch of I-94 to quickly transport the driver to a nearby hospital. The driver was reportedly conscious and alert when he was transported.
This is following Friday’s massive pileup on I-94 near Galesburg, which as of 12:15 p.m. Saturday had a stretch of the highway still shutdown for cleanup.
Battle Creek Police are asking travelers to try and avoid I-94 between mile marker 98 (M-66) and mile marker 92 through the weekend.
