Man told $500,000 lottery ticket was ‘a misprint’

NEW MEXICO — It’s probably an understatement to say that John Wines was a bit disappointed to learn that a lottery ticket worth more than half a million dollars was a misprint.

According to KOB, Wines found five winning numbers when he scratched off the ticket, meaning he should have won over $500,000.

However, when he went to cash the ticket, he was told the maximum prize was $250,000.

“They told me it was a misprint and they don’t pay off for misprints” he told KOB.

Wines was told by the New Mexico Lottery that his “winning” ticket was part of a pack of flawed tickets.

“It’s like I told them, I didn’t misprint it,” Wines told KOB. “I bought the ticket in good faith thinking if I won I was going to get my money. And they told me no, they absolutely, positively told me no.”

They thanked him for bringing the misprint to their attention and offered him $100 in lottery tickets.

Maybe one of those will be a winner?
