KENT COUNTY, Mich. -- The Kent County Road Commission advises drivers to slow down as West Michigan experiences freezing temperatures.
Several accidents occurred in West Michigan on Monday due to slick roads. One of the commission's salt trucks was struck after another driver lost control.
"It was struck in the back. So people do need to slow down for us. They need to slow down for themselves," Jerry Byrne, the road commission's director of maintenance said.
"Again, what we looked at today is the speeds going up as the sun came out. But yet the roads were really slippery. So it's a false sense of security. Just because the sun's out doesn't mean the pavement's good," Byrne explained.
