PORTAGE, Mich. — A man who was riding his bike in Portage on Sunday evening was hit by a car while he was riding across the street, and police have reason to believe the bicyclist had been drinking.

The incident happened at the intersection of Sprinkle Road and Meredith shortly before 6:00 p.m.  Officers learned that the bicyclist was in the crosswalk, when a vehicle struck him.  The 54-year-old man was taken to the hospital where he’s currently listed in stable condition.

According to witnesses and evidence at the scene, police say alcohol use on the part of the bicyclist likely contributed to the collision.
