GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Celebration! Cinema is joining theater chains nationwide that are choosing not to show an upcoming comedy about a plot to assassinate North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.
“The Interview” was recently threatened by anonymous hackers who said that people should avoid going to theaters where it was being shown.
Celebration! joins chains like Regal, Cinemark and Carmike in deciding not to show the Sony comedy.
According to a Celebration! spokesperson, they believe the movie will be delayed and are not scheduling showtimes or selling any tickets for it. The chain has theaters in Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Portage, Lansing, Benton Harbor and Mt. Pleasant.
According to CNN, it’s still up in the air whether other chains like AMC Entertainment and ArcLight will screen “The Interview.” The movie is scheduled to release on Christmas Day.
