Car rams into 28th Street Arby’s restaurant

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Two drivers were injured in a three-car collision that saw one of the vehicles crash into an Arby’s restaurant Monday evening.

At 6:40 p.m. Monday, a 26-year-old Rockford man drove southbound from Horizon Drive onto 28th Street SE, where his vehicle struck an eastbound Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by a 36-year-old Grand Rapids woman.

After the collision, the man apparently pressed the accelerator instead of the brake and his car crossed a sidewalk, entered a parking lot at the Arby’s restaurant at 5050 28th Street SE, hit a parked Ford Explorer, and then crashed into the restaurant building, Kent County Sheriff’s Office deputies said.

The drivers of the two vehicles involved in the original accident both were transported to the hospital. No information reports are available but both were conscious after the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.
