Michigan State Police are hoping some information from the public could help lead to an arrest following the death of Ingham County Sheriff’s Deputy Grant Whitaker.

Whitaker was killed during a vehicle pursuit just after 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning outside the village of Stockbridge, Michigan, in the area of M-52 and Dexter trail. Police believe that the fleeing driver was in a white, full-sized SUV.

Whitaker was responding to a fight when the white SUV drove past the location speeding. Whitaker was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, but his patrol vehicle was slit in two.

MSP is now the investigating agency on the accident, and has set up a tip line for the public to call or text information. The number is (517) 331-5634, and all information can remain confidential.
