WEST MICHIGAN — I suppose the headline says it all! After some early morning mixed precipitation like freezing rain, sleet, snow, and just plain rain, the remainder of our weekend will not be pretty. Expect mainly foggy, wet conditions as warm air lifts northward in to the region over the colder snow-pack. That usually creates a low level deck of stratus clouds or fog.
Mainly light rain and drizzle will dominate the region through Sunday until a surge of moisture arrives Sunday evening/night straight from the Gulf of Mexico. One to two inches of rain is expected from this system…that’s on top of the 12 to 20 inch or more snow-pack across the area. While we’re not expecting river flooding, urban flooding is likely with standing water and ponding water with the snow-melt and rainfall.
The system lifting in to the Great Lakes on Monday will actually strengthen as it approaches. That means the wind field will increase, cold air will ensue, and temperatures will fall throughout the day. Any lingering rain in the morning will change over to snow showers. The only good news is high temperatures on Saturday will be 40 degrees or better, and may top 50 or better (from GR-south) on Sunday. Highs will likely hold in the middle 40s early Monday before the front swings through the region.
The image attached to this story is from our computer forecast model and shows possible accumulated rainfall through 6 AM on Monday. Most locations will likely rack up at least an inch or more.
Colder temps and accumulating snow will likely follow the remainder of the week, but not as brutal as it was this past week. Get the complete forecast at www.fox17online.com/weather.
