OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — The woman who hit and killed a 15-year-old Holland boy in September is facing a misdemeanor charge in connection with the incident, according to the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office.

Ruth Borgman, 64, will be charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident.

Borgman struck Jonathan Bracamontes at about 6:10 a.m. Sept. 30 while the teen was crossing U.S. 31 at the Riley street intersection in Holland Township.

She called 911 after arriving at work, police said.

“Despite the felony option I am exercising my discretion to charge at the misdemeanor level,” Ottawa County Prosecutor Ronald J. Frantz wrote in a release.  “Factors entering into this decision include the fact that Borgman did not attempt to conceal her identity from the police or hide her involvement in the accident.”
