CINCINNATI, Ohio — More than 26 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of about $20,000 was discovered inside a statue of Jesus Friday morning, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in Cincinnati.
According to a release, the drug-filled statue was discovered during an inspection at a DHL express consignment facility.
“This unique seizure demonstrates the extraordinary methods individuals will utilize in their attempt to smuggle narcotics,” Cincinnati Port Director Richard L. Gillespie said in a release.
The statue was inspected after a CBP dog alerted officers to its smell. Officials X-rayed the statue, then drilled into it and found the marijuana, according to a release.
CBP officials say the package came from Mexico and was heading to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
