Griffins’ Hirschfeld needs team effort to witness birth of his daughter

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Alden Hirschfeld was in Grand Rapids when he got the call from his wife in Toledo, Ohio, that she was going into labor.

While she wasn’t having the baby that instant, Alden had a problem.

He couldn’t drive a car.

Because he suffered a seizure a month ago, Hirschfeld is not allowed to get behind the wheel of an automobile. So Hirschfeld had to get help from teammates and family to get to Toledo in time to witness the birth of Vivian Kathryn Hirschfeld.
