GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich.– One man is behind bars after deputies said he barricaded himself inside a home for several hours Thursday morning in southern Kent County.
Officers surrounded a home, located at 7439 Eastern Avenue SE.
“Around 5:10 this morning, we received a 911 call on a cell phone which was from a female asking for the police,” said Lt. Jeff De Vries with the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.
“The call disconnected. Around 15 minutes later we received a call from a landline from the address which again gave the address and disconnected.”
Not knowing why the woman called for help, and because they couldn’t get back in touch with her, deputies were concerned.
Deputies, police and the SWAT team blocked off a portion of Eastern Avenue just north of 76th street.
“I came to look out the window and my kids were up and it was actually kind of scary,” said neighbor Brent Gilbert. “I don’t know if there’s going to be a shootout.”
Deputies said a man wanted on warrants lives in the home. When he wouldn’t come out, officers followed procedure and shot out a window and rammed the front door.
Officers escorted a woman and elderly man out of the home and eventually arrested the man they were looking for.
No one was hurt.
