BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (July 1, 2014) — The American Red Cross announced Tuesday that they opened a cooling center at their location at 14600 Beadle Lake Rd.
The cooling center opened at roughly 2 p.m. and is meant to help residents that still don’t have power after Monday’s onslaught of severe weather. As of Tuesday evening, 19,000 in Calhoun County were still without power.
A shelter also opened at the same location at 4 p.m.
According to Calhoun County’s Emergency Management Director Lori Phillips, the shelter and cooling center will be open over night. It is expected to close at 5 p.m. Tuesday pending the number of people in the area who are still without power, she said.
