GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (June 22, 2014)– A man is safe on shore Sunday morning after being stuck in the low head dam just north of Bridge Street in the Grand River.
A kayaker in an inflatable boat was paddling his way through the Grand River downtown Grand Rapids, when he got stuck in the low head dam. After the first step, the kayaker lost his paddle and the kayak began to fill with water. Police say a bystander saw the incident and called for help.
According to police they arrived quickly and were able to help rescue the man. The fire department also responded, throwing a rope to the man, and dragging him to the safety of their own rescue boats. There were no injuries in the accident, and everyone made it out of the water Okay.
Just another reminder to think safe when it comes to water.
