KALAMAZOO, Mich. (June 16, 2014) — Nearly 100 people gathered in Kalamazoo’s Edison neighborhood Monday to speak out against increased gun violence in the community.
The mother of teenage shooting victim Michael Day was one of the dozens in attendance at the “Enough is Enough” rally.
“We ought to be angry as hell that a 13-year-old lost his life,” one man said to the crowd. “Any time we lose a young child at the precious age of 13 we should be mad.”
There have been three times as many shots fired reports in the Edison neighborhood in March and April than in those months last year. The forum was open to anyone who wanted to speak out about problems and solutions to that violence.
Michael Day, 13, was shot and killed on Memorial Day while riding his bike. Three people are facing murder charges connected to that shooting, including a 15-year-old.
