KALAMAZOO, Mich. (June 2, 2014) — Toren Hains was sentenced Monday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of his girlfriend’s 14-month-old daughter.
Hains was convicted in May for the December 2012 death, according to officials at 9th Circuit Court in Kalamazoo.
He was also sentenced to an additional 10 to 30 years for first-degree child abuse, court officials said.
The child was found unresponsive at an Oshtemo Township apartment in December 2012 and later died at the hospital. Hains wasn’t charged until October 2013 when her autopsy was completed.
