GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (May 20, 2104) – The Grand Rapids Police Department has succeeded in getting guns off the streets at a higher than normal rate this week.
Lt. Pat Merrill say 12 guns were seized Sunday and Monday, all on the city’s southeast side. Merrill says Grand Rapids officers typically confiscate a gun or two a week.
Of the 12 guns that were seized, two of them were involved in shootings. Several arrests have also been made in connection to the gun seizures.
Five of the guns were confiscated after a home was searched in the 800 block of Alexander Street following a shooting on Monday afternoon.
Four people were arrested in connection to that shooting. Two are facing charges of Assault with Intent to Murder. Nobody was hurt in that incident.
During the home search, officers also confiscated more than 1,100 rounds of ammunition, along with about eight pounds of marijuana and crack-cocaine.
