MONTCALM COUNTY, Mich. (May 18, 2014) — A two-vehicle crash  along M-66 in the Stanton area caused a natural gas line to break Sunday afternoon, prompting officials to close the road down in both directions for several hours.

The crash happened at 12:44 p.m. between Pakes and Stanton, according to Montcalm County Sheriff’s Department.  No one was injured.

MDOT announced just after 4:40 p.m. that M-66 had reopened.

The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Department said Consumers Energy officials believe the leak posed no danger to the public.

Officials say the closure initially caused severe traffic back-ups in the area because of the Central Montcalm High School graduation ceremony, which they said began at 2 p.m.
