GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (May 12, 2014) — The Grand Rapids Housing Commission is opening the waiting list for its Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program on May 12.
Those seeking a Section 8 voucher will be able to apply online to the program from 12:00 a.m. May 12 through 11:59 p.m. May 16 by clicking here.
The GRHC will also accept applications by phone May 12-16 at 616/288-1150 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to provide their information to GRHC staff. Applicants should have their Social Security number available when they call.
The GRHC’s Section 8 application process will be completely online or via phone — there will be no paper applications, and applications will not be available or accepted at the GRHC administrative office or GRHC housing management offices.
Once the application period has ended, the GRHC will draw 4,000 names by computerized random lottery, and these applicants will be added to the agency’s Section 8 waiting list. Computerized random lottery will also determine placement of new applicants on the waiting list.
After the lottery process is completed, applicants will receive a postcard via U.S. Mail to confirm whether their application was selected and added to the Section 8 waiting list.
