KALAMAZOO, Mich. (May 3, 2014)—Fanfare in Kalamazoo is celebrating, along with thousands of other stores around the world, International Free Comic Book Day.

Fanfare is located at 4415 South Westnedge Ave, and is expecting to have a great turn out for the thirteenth year in a row. Over 4.6 million comic books total are going to be given away at the participating stores. “The wide array of comic books being published today ensures that readers of all ages—children, teens, and adults—can find something appropriate that will stir their imaginations,” said Josh Hall, Assistant Manager of Fanfare.

The free event kicks off today at 10 AM and goes until 8PM. International Free Comic Book day was created to introduce as many people as possible to the art form of comic books, and in the last few years, they have jumped to the top ranks of pop culture, with many being made into movies.

“We at Fanfare want to spread the word that comics are perfect for today’s times,” Hall continued. “Comic books and graphic novels are considered a hot form of entertainment, that are fun and a smart pick for readers to dive into as imagination comes to life with the turn of every page.”
