GRANDVILLE, Mich. (March 15, 2014) — Talking about suicide is hard, but it’s something that is happening every 18 minutes the US. It  affects more than 30,000 families a year.

Members of the Todd Waite Legacy Foundation were raising money to help with suicide and mental illness awareness.

The foundation was formed by the Waite family after they lost 19-year-old Todd to suicide in July of 2010.

The family hosts an auction every year with the goal of spreading information to anyone who comes in contact with someone who’s struggling.

Todd’s cousin, Brian Gritter said that he wants to raise awareness on mental illness and help to prevent suicide.

“It’s grown way beyond our imagination. We send material to people all over the world. It’s had a huge impact on a lot of people,” said Gritter.

Gritter also said that there were nearly 300 people who showed up on Saturday, and that the auction raises between $15,000-$20,000 every year.
