Alleged Arsonist Caught in the Act in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich (February 14, 2014) – Two people now face charges after police were tipped off to a plan to burn a house down in Kalamazoo.

On Tuesday, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety received tips that someone was planning to burn down a home in the 1300 block of North Park Street early Thursday morning.

Officers performed a stake out, catching 56-year-old Elvis Patterson making preparations to burn the home around 3:00 a.m. on Thursday.

He’s now been charged with Conspiracy to Commit Arson and Attempted 2nd Degree Arson, and has been released on bond.

A second suspect identified as 69-year-old Lola Atkinson of Oshtemo Township was also arrested and charged with the same offenses, and has also been released on bond.

A motive for the attempted arson hasn’t been released just yet.
