BARRY COUNTY, Mich. — The first flu-related death of the season was reported in Barry County Wednesday, according to the Barry-Eaton District Health Department.
It is the only reported death among 15 cases of laboratory confirmed illness in the two counties, according to a release.
There have been 12 cases in Eaton County and three in Barry County, but the release stresses that these confirmed cases are a small fraction of the number of actual cases. Most people do not seek medical attention.
“Influenza vaccination is recommended for all residents over age 6 months,” the release says. “Please contact your local health care provider for vaccine availability.”
