BATTLE CREEK, Mich. –As the snow falls across West Michigan, drivers are being urged to stay off the roads if they don’t need to be out.

FOX 17 rode along with two officers from the Battle Creek Police Department. Officers responded to a number of weather-related calls. Drivers often got stuck in the snow. That includes semi-truck drivers.

“We want to get there to emergency calls but we also know, if we don’t get there [because we get in an accident], then we can’t help whatever emergency is happening,” Officer Chris Brown said.

Heavy winds were also common in the area. The snow emergency means Battle Creek Public Schools are closed on Monday. Closures also include Battle Creek’s city hall and Calhoun County government. Parking isn’t allowed on the streets of Battle Creek. Plows need to clear the roadways. Anyone who parks on the street risks getting a ticket.
