GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Santa’s little helpers were out in full force in West Michigan, bringing an early Christmas present to thousands of children Saturday.
“Elves and More,” a nonprofit group, gave away 2,500 bicycles to area children in need.
This is the ninth year the group has done the big bike donation – but this holiday season, they’ve doubled the amount of bikes they’ve been able to give.
Hundreds of people and corporations donate throughout the year to make it possible.
“The kids are so excited when they get out to the bike corral and they get to pick out a bike,” Liz Bracken said. “For many of them it might be their first bike, so it`s a great day for both them and their families.”
300 volunteers built the bikes last week and hundreds more were there Saturday for the big giveaway.
