GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Before heading off in the dark for the first day of the firearms deer hunting season, Dan Heath and his daughter paused at the back door for a picture. Wearing the state-required hunter orange, the pair looked ready for a few hours in the woods.
Thousands of hunters will take to public and private lands to hunt deer during Michigan’s firearms deer season, which runs Nov. 15 through 30.
Hunters are not restricted to using firearms during this period, says the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Archery equipment, including crossbows, be used.
The DNR has provided some online tools for hunters, including a map of public lands to hunt on and a map of deer check stations.
