GRANT, Mich. — Some Newaygo County parents are upset that their children won’t be playing in a national band competition in Indianapolis, which is set to take place Nov. 14 to 16.
A parent of one of the band members at Grant High School tells FOX 17 $9,000 dollars was raised for the students to take the trip.
Superintendent Johnathan Whan said that he wasn’t notified until Tuesday that the band was even considering attending the competition. Because of the short notice, Whan said that there simply is not enough time to plan all the logistics of the trip. Whan said that the band director had chosen during the summer that the band would not be attending.
Whan told FOX 17 that if he would have been given a notice sooner that the band was interested in attending, then maybe something could have been worked out. He said that the district and the band director had decided they would not attend the competition as they have for the previous three years.
