FARGO, North Dakota-  A woman in North Dakota recently had the unexpected happen, after her fiance called off their wedding, just weeks before the big day.

WDAY reports that Michelle Marxen was set to get married on October 19th, but instead, her husband-to-be called her and said he didn’t love her anymore.

Since the reception hall, photographer and band was already paid for, Michelle decided that she wasn’t going to let the party go to waste.

“We spent a whole year planning this wedding and it just all ended in a phone call. You can’t heal if you’re just gonna dwell on what could of been,” says Marxen.

Michelle donated her reception to Creative Care for Reaching Independence, a non-profit that helps people with disabilities. The organization plans to use the room to have a Halloween party.

“It kind of changes you. I fill like I’m trying. This is helping me heal. Giving to some people who you know what is supposed to be my special day, now can turn into their special day,” said Marxen.

Michelle plans to be in Las Vegas on what would have been her wedding day.
