Man Hit By Car While Trying To Retrieve Dog

HOWARD CITY, Mich. — Morris Zerlaut, died October 3 after he tried to cross M-46 and was hit by a car.

Zerlaut, 63, was helping retrieve a dog that had gotten loose from a home nearby when he crossed M-46 at Edgar Road around 9:30 p.m. As he crossed the road, he was hit by a westbound car driven by a 27-year-old male.

Zerlaut was flown to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Alcohol is not considered a factor in the incident, said Michigan State Police.
