SHERMAN TOWNSHIP,Mich. — According to the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a one-car traffic crash that occurred September 25 at approximately 5:10 p.m. A 1999 Ford F-250 pickup driven by Ryan Thomas Byberg was traveling westbound on W. Drew Rd., approximately ¼ mile east of W. County Line Rd. when it ran off the roadway, went through a ditch and ended up striking some trees.
Byberg sustained minor injuries and refused treatment. A 6-year-old passenger was airlifted to Spectrum Health Systems in Grand Rapids, MI by Aero Med for possible head injuries.
Restraints were used by both individuals, but the 6-year-old was not properly restrained in a belt-positioning booster seat.
Byberg was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated and Child Endangerment. He remains in the Isabella County Jail on a $10,000/10% cash surety bond.
The 6-year old’s injuries included a concussion, minor lacerations, abrasions and bruising. She is expected to be released from the hospital on September 26.
