MANISTEE, Mich. — In a recent post on the agency’s Facebook page, the Michigan State Police shared more than 20 photographs in honor of fallen Trooper Paul Butterfield II.
Trooper Butterfield was shot and killed in the line of duty earlier this month. The suspect in his killing, Eric Knysz, is charged with homicide/murder of a police officer, which carries a life sentence without parole. His pregnant wife, Sarah is charged with accessory after the fact and stealing a vehicle.
The Funeral for Trooper Butterfield at Manistee Middle/High School was a massive tribute, with Governor Rick Snyder among those in attendance.
Included in the album is a message from MSP:
“The Michigan State Police would like to thank everyone for the kind words, thoughts, and prayers after the loss of Tpr. Paul Butterfield II, who was killed in the line of duty on September 9. The numerous messages, comments, and cards have meant a lot to the MSP family and law enforcement community as a whole. Thank you for your continued support of the Michigan State Police.”
