A Van Buren County judge granted a lesbian couple a protection order against a neighbor that they say had been harassing them.

The arguments played out in court last week and again Tuesday morning before the court.

Jo Ann Morgan and her partner, Margie Johnson, caught some of the alleged offenses on video.

They said that the man had been driving by their home while revving the engine on his diesel truck in order to pour black smoke into their yard.

Morgan also said he regularly called them derogatory names based on their sexual identity.

She said there were 40 such incidents since the spring.

A Michigan State Police trooper also testified to the judge that he felt the neighborhood had waged a campaign of harassment.

Their attorney said he is happy for the couple.

He says the man will likely be restricted from following the couple, using derogatory language toward them and regularly driving by their home with the truck in question.
