GALIEN, Mich.- A 27-year-old is behind bars after he tried to speed away from the police.
It happened on Friday morning around 1:30 when the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department got a report of a stolen vehicle. They searched the area of Cleveland and Elm Valley Roads and found a man driving that stolen car. When they tried to pull him over, he didn’t stop and sped away.
The driver led police on a chase going more than 90 miles per hour eventually going off the road and through several fields and a stream before crashing the car. After he crashed the car, he ran away on foot. A K-9 dog was brought in and found the man in some brush.
Deputies confirmed that the car was stolen and returned it to its owner. They also took another car in Lake Township for evidence. The Berrien County Prosecutor is deciding whether to press charges.
