Benefit Planned for Family of Mom with Leukemia

Posted

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Jeri Miley is on a mission for her friend Melissa Gale. Melissa`s daughter Alyssa is battling through a rare form of leukemia, all while pregnant.

FOX 17 has followed her story. She`s since had her son Scott who`s 5 months old now. He’s smaller than the average child his age, but he’s doing well.

In the meantime, Alyssa has gone through a bone marrow transplant. The process has been difficult on her family. Alyssa`s mom, Melissa said she`s had her hours cut short at work while driving back and forth to take care of Alyssa at the University of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor where she`s being treated.

“Gas alone, she`s probably spent 9 grand in, since the beginning of the year,” Miley said.

Melissa and her family have also been evicted as a result from the lack of income. They`re now living with Miley.

“My friend means a lot to me and her daughter means a lot and they`ve been through a lot and they deserve to get help,” Miley said.

“It’s really tough to have your family split up,” Melissa Gale said.

“Alyssa has been staying with my mom, and I’m so thankful for my mom. If it wasn’t for my mom, I don’t know what I would have done,” she added.

So the group is looking for a little help spreading the word at the Metro Cruise about a benefit to be held tomorrow.

“We`re passing this out because there`s a lot of people here and we just need as many people to come out as possible,” Miley explained.

The benefit is scheduled to take place at Amvets on 52nd Street and Division Avenue in Grand Rapids from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
