GRAND RAPIDS, Mich- Airport police and the Kentwood Police department confirm that there have been cases of lasers pointed at the cockpits of planes landing and taking off from Gerald R. Ford International Airport.
The incidents have taken place over the last couple of weeks and reflect a national problem.
In 2012 there were 3,482 reported laser incidents at U.S. airports. That number is down slightly from 2011 but more than double from 2009.
The penalty if convicted is a 250 thousand dollar fine and 20 years in prison.
A quick check on YouTube shows videos of what pilots experience inside the cockpits when lasers are pointed at aircraft.
If you have any information about the recent cases you are asked to call the Kentwood Police Department.
