MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — Fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other male role models are kicking off the school year in the spirit of safety and support.

On Monday, August 12, they are walking the community’s children to school as part of the Black Star Project’s Million Father March.  The Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System has joined the initiative to urge male role models to take a greater role in the education of the children in their lives.

The district is hosting first-day celebrations at each of its schools.  There will be a formal presentation featuring guest speakers from around the Muskegon Heights Community starting at 8:00 a.m. at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School.  Participants include fathers, grandfathers, brothers, mentors, and many others.
